Jesse Byrd is a top-selling literary agent and award-winning author who launched Jesse B. Creative as an agency centered around supporting the work of mostly marginalized authors and illustrators to develop children’s books that allow young people across the spectrum of lived experiences to see themselves in stories.
As a part of his publishing work, Jesse runs a story-making workshop that guides youth through the process of developing the narrative of their dreams and having it published.
His debut novel and picture books have won awards and acclaim at competitions worldwide.
He’s served as the Creative Director and CEO of U Wish, a multimedia studio owned by former NBA all-star, Baron Davis, that focuses on representative content for young people ages 0-12. Their hallmark characters are Black Santa and CeCe.
Jesse was Head of Brand Voice for the National Basketball Association’s mobile app and, he’s a proud National Public Radio (NPR) Foundation board member.
Jesse says ‘Google was his grad school’ where, prior to starting his own venture, he worked and learned about operations, product development, and sales strategy. He’s held in various roles in leadership, copywriting, and marketing at Ernst & Young and more, learning the ropes of business.
His next venture is Moonbeam Literary & Media, where Jesse is a founder alongside Rebecca Chu, is designed to build on everything Jesse B. Creative built in the book space and expand into TV, film, merchandise, music, stageplays, gaming, and more!
Jesse is a graduate of Bishop O’Dowd High School and UC Santa Barbara and is a dual native of New Orleans Louisiana and Oakland, California, currently living in Los Angeles.
